Canadian Mental Health Association Haldimand - Norfolk is a non-profit organization that depends on volunteer participation to help increase public awareness and to help those affected by mental illness.

Because studies show that regular volunteer activity can have a positive effect on mental and physical health, we especially encourage those personally affected by mental illness to volunteer. Volunteering can be a satisfying outlet for your talents and interests and provides an opportunity for social contact and interaction. Volunteers are people who donate their time to help out and make a difference in their community. You too can make a difference by becoming a volunteer.

Who can become a Volunteer?

Adults and teens, students, working professionals, home makers, retirees, the unemployed preparing to return to the workplace, and anyone interested in mental health issues. Anyone can volunteer.

How much time is required?

It’s up to you. Some volunteers donate a few hours each week or each month. Some volunteer for specific projects at select times during the year. The amount of time needed has a lot to do with the kind of volunteer work you choose.

What kind of volunteer work does CMHA offer?

You can help us with:

Research and Library Work -Volunteers will be responsible for maintaining and seeking resource information for the agency.

Freedom to decide

Board & Committee Work - Individuals participating on the Board of Directors will be required to commit to a long-term involvement with the organization.  They are required to have extensive passion for mental health and mental health awareness.  Committee members will also be required to complete a specific level of commitment including attending meetings and reviewing materials prior to meetings.

Driving - Volunteers will transport clients to various appointments, groups etc. This position requires a Valid G Licence and will involve an additional screening process.


Fundraising
- Volunteers will be expected to work under direct supervision of the volunteer and fundraising coordinator and will be responsible for aiding in fundraising efforts.  This position includes extensive community involvement.

Special Events - Volunteers will be responsible for tasks specific for the completion of special events.  Involvement will be based on the length of the special event.

One-to-One Support - Volunteers are able to role model, have good listen skills and are able to participate in recreational activities. Activities could include going for coffee, walking, playing a sport, attending a community event… etc

Maintenance -Volunteers help with indoor and outdoor task such as painting, gardening, cleaning, cutting grass, snow removal… etc

Office Support - Volunteers will help with administrative and organizational task such as photocopying, assembling kits, preparing brochures, helping with mail outs…etc

Public Education – Volunteers will be selected and screened based on specific talents, skills, and capabilities.  A Public Education volunteer could include; yoga, tai chi, relaxation instructors and/or community awareness speakers. 

BINGO

Volunteers needed for Bingo Live
(on Amtelecom Cable 5)

This is a joint venture between the Haldimand-Norfolk branches of the Alzheimer's Society and CMHA to raise funds for many support services.

Bingo live on Cable 5 is seeking volunteers to dedicate 90 minutes of their time every 4- 6 weeks.
We are in need of callers, people to answer phones, and emergency backup volunteers. The funds raised from this program are divided between our regional Alzheimer Society and CMHA to enhance services / programming.
